Many people are dissatisfied with their job. Actually reason enough for a change of employer, one would think. But according to a study, not everyone can bring themselves to this. 52% of the dissatisfied employees surveyed say that they do not want to forego certain advantages of their current job. These include flexible working models, the level of the salary, the location, and things like that.

On the other hand, a third (32%) do not believe that their situation would improve with another employer. The people concerned are dissatisfied with this in their job but see no alternative for themselves. And another 21% complain about the lack of attractive employers as an alternative in the region.

According to the survey, there are further obstacles to reorientation at work:

  • Great effort for an application including the application process (20%)
  • Feeling comfortable in the previous team (20%)
  • Not enough time to write an application (17%)
  • Afraid of the competition in the context of the application process (14%)
  • Insufficient qualifications for a new job (10%)

These are remarkable statements that should concern not only employees but also their employers. After all, job dissatisfaction harms work ethic, motivation, and thus productivity.

On the other hand, managers should actually do something as soon as they perceive that employees are unhappy at work. Especially when crises exacerbate the situation through unfamiliar work processes as well as individual stress or isolation fears in the home office.

First and foremost, the employees themselves are challenged. You shouldn’t rely on the goodwill or efforts of your bosses, or hope that the situation will magically turn out for the better.

  • Check that your strengths match your inclinations. That is not the case automatically. You may need certain additional qualifications for your dream job. You should have acquired them before you apply for your desired position.
  • Look for professions that match your identified strengths and weaknesses. You may notice that a fundamental professional reorientation makes sense. Then expand your search area. Another position with your current employer may also be the solution to the problem.
  • Talk to friends and acquaintances about your situation. Perhaps this will result in an interesting suggestion that you would not have come up with on your own.
